Pocono Raceway

From David Terry
I attended two track days at Pocono East in October of 2001 with NESBA. I went with a couple of friends, one on a 748, the other on an Aprilia Falco.
It was extremely cold and we actually had snow flurries though this did not interfere with the fun in any way.
The track is fairly technical and is run in a counter clockwise rotation. The track is extremely flat with no blind corners.
You enter the course at the end of the fairly short front straight and hit a left hander. This then turns into an s type series of turns before coming up to another left hander that takes you on to the fastest part of the course which is the back straight that uses a section of the banked NASCAR circuit. The left hand corner that leads on to the back straight is one place that I didn't want to lose it at as the outside of the corner is the concrete wall that runs around the outside of the main track. The end of the back straight takes you into a sweeping left hander. There is also a huge run off area at the end of the back straight which I saw quite a few people take advantage of over the two days. This run off area is in fact the continuation of the main course which is coned off. There are a couple more fastish turns followed by a short straight that leads to the bus stop, basically a very slow right hand hairpin turn. One more turn (I think) before getting back on to the short front straight that has a kink in it right in front of the pit area. This area is also very bumpy and led to some people having problems coming into the first turn of the front straight.
We really enjoyed this track which reminded us a little of JC, but with more room and the chance to get into 4th gear!
