A trio of Bimota DB2s (left to right) Tony Foster's pristine rolling product testbed for his Ducati speedshop, Personal Cycle Specialities in Daytona Beach (904) 253-2586); Chris Edwards 944cc, 365 pound wet-weight machine built by Greg Rammel; and Paul Vitale's VeeTwo BEARS replica racebike. In fact all of these DB2s feature 944cc powerplants in various states of tune, although VeeTwo components are scattered throughout. For instance, Edwards's bike uses Pankl Titanium rods and C.R/ Axtell-ported heads, Foster opted for Carillo rods, with his PCS shop doing the headwork, whle Vitale's racebike motor was built by VeeTwo's Brook Henry in Australia, utilizing different-spec Carillo rods and heads totally reworked by VeeTwo. Those heads (port heights and angles were changed, with altered inlet shape as well) are the main reason for the big horsepower numbers of Vitale's DB2: 104 horsepower and 77 foot-pounds of torque.
Left: We got a chance to take John Moss's ducati 955 for a spin, and came away impressed. This isn't your garden variety 955. It was built by Igor Gordinsky of Event Technology, Inc. The engine sports trick stuff like oversize Corsa valves (37mm intake, 31 mm exhaust), type 431 cams, flowed heads, Omega pistans, and an actual factory titanium exhaust from Foggy's bike, plus a neat STM clipper clutch (below) for chatter-free downshifts. The list of engine mods may not sound like much, but one ride was enough to convince us of Gordinsky's tuning prowess. Moss's 955 ripped off the corners, an impression confirmed when we were shown a dyno chart that listed a peak of 131 bhp at 10,000rpm, with nearly 80 foot-pounds of torque.
